Headshots and Personal Branding

My goal is to photograph you in a location and with a vibe that is in alignment with your personality and vision, while providing you with different looks using planning sessions, wardrobe, special objects and storytelling. Don’t worry if you are not comfortable in front of the camera, as most people aren’t. It’s my job to help you relax, breath, ground and move you through a flow of poses and organic candids. You’ll find your groove, I promise! Best advice I can give is to be yourself.

What resonates with you?
There are a few different directions for settings. What is your story? What is your brand? Is there a special location that resonates deeply with you or conveys the essence of your business and offering? Read these over and let me know which kind of location speaks to you most. That will help me in beginning the direction for your session.

Home storytelling – I hate to sound cliche, but there is truly no place like home and no place that is more YOU! It is also a place of comfort and ease – a place for you to feel yourself. If your home’s design and aesthetic is in line with the vibe you’d like to convey, I highly encourage shooting there. Not only that, but natural window light is amazing. These are super fun and playful sessions that derive a wonderful diversity of candid / documentary and posed images.

Place of business / Commercial – Definitely worth considering if your place of business tells a big part of the story you are trying to convey and fits the visual style of your brand.

Rustic / Nature – barns, grasses, lakes, open fields, botanical gardens, your favorite hike, forests, mountains. If nature speaks to you most the possibilities are endless. Let me know what kind of nature setting resonates with you the most.

The Coast – Truly one of the easiest places to let go, am I right? The feeling and color palette is super airy, light and the mood is high key even on overcast days.

Urban / Cityscape – Fun and modern with vibrance and texture. We’ll go walk through a couple of great neighborhoods in SF or a local downtown and stop where we feel inspired!

Basic suggestions
Most important advice I can give is to stick to your personality when choosing wardrobe. How you feel in your outfit is almost more important than how it looks, as if you don’t feel like your authentic self it will show. IMPORTANT! Please consider the tones and feel of your wardrobe in relation to your brand and online image to ensure cohesion.

A neutral palette is gorgeous and lends well to more organic and natural imagery. Cream, gray, sage, brown, white, rose, pastels, etc. Coordinating those tones help to create images that are truly timeless.

Alternatively, a color palette is super fun! If color is your thing and you want images that are vibrant and playful, the possibilities are endless for incorporating it into your shoot. Best advice is to choose neutrals and add 1 vibrant color to weave in.

Professional attire is definitely more versatile now than in years past, so depending on your trade and industry think of how you can weave your personality into your professional outfit.

Layers: Jackets, scarves, vests, hats!  Gives great depth and is important for changing weather (dual purpose!).

Accessories Bracelets, necklaces, earrings, etc. Just please stay away from giant watches, as I will ask you to remove them.

Make-up and hair: – I do suggest make-up for these sessions, but if it’s not normally your thing a little mascara, a bit of cheek color and chapstick or lip-gloss goes a long way. For those that do their make-up regularly, do as you normally would, but stay away from anything that has excess shimmer in it – dewy and glowy is great, but sparkly does not show well in pictures. I do have make-up and hair artist connections if you are interested in commissioning one or both for your session.

Objects: Are there any special or sacred items that you’d like to incorporate into some of your imagery? For example, a healer might bring crystals, a feather, singing bowls and a writer might bring books, a journal and a special pen. Including special objects helps tell your story and expands your library of images to pull from when needed on your website, blog and social media.
